Magic

The basis for all magic is attention, it's that simple.

When a magician wants to use magic, beyond the rituals, chanting, and accoutrements of the magical arts, the magician must use their perception to bring the mental into the real.

What this entails, is the magician using physical movement and objects to focus on the spell that is currently nothing but thought. By creating a ritual in the real world, and attaching that ritual to the spell that is only imagination, it brings attention and "realness" to the spell.

When this ritual and thought is worked many times to build a habitual relationship with the spell, the effects of the spell will work through your subconscious efforts. The habit around the ritual will solidify the spell in reality, bringing what was once thought into a state that exists in both the mind and the physical world. Because the spell is more real, you will unconsciously commit to actions that bring about the desired outcome of the spell.

That is real magic, and in The Hyper, it works much the same way. Though, in The Hyper, the source of these spells are not one's inner workings, but the infinite amount of alternate realities that have been stitched into the new fabric of reality. This means that channeling a spell is the same as channeling a reality that expresses the spell you want to cast. Want to throw a fireball? You need to tap into a reality that is entirely fire, or comprised of a single massive sun. Want to freeze someone in place? A void reality of 0 degrees Kelvin would do the trick. Stop time? A reality that eschews the linear march of causality is what you need.

Magic is the representation of infinite possibilities, narrowed into a workable form through ritual and the effort of focused attention. It's really that simple.
